You should keep looking for QA role and while you get a job in QA. Start fresh preparation for backend roles while in QA role and then make a switch from QA to backend role. I can guide you on the roadmap that is required for you to upskill in backend roles.

Hi Rakesh,

The answer to your question depends on "Do you have the luxury to not be employed to pursue a role change ?"

  1. If you have a financial runway of 3-6 months where you can afford to fail in interviews,
  2. Why do want to switch to backend roles ? Your why must be solid for you to make that choice.

I would suggest to deliberate on these two questions and make a list of 5 pros and cons of any decision you take. It'll help you get more clarity.

That said, a more pragmatic approach would be to secure a QA role and build a portfolio of projects in backend development.

As you do, update your github, resume and start networking with backend engineers of companies you would like to apply to. Once you are ready, you can ask for referrals and apply for backend roles.

Hi Rakesh,

I would strongly recommend that you wholeheartedly pursue your goal. Six years is still just the beginning of a long and rewarding career, and it’s essential to stay focused on your desired path. While it’s tempting to temporarily consider a job in QA, if your passion lies in backend development you should embrace this opportunity to learn and grow.

Few tips,

Before diving into backend technologies, ensure that you have a solid foundation in DSA, Problem-Solving, and OOPs. Familiarizing yourself with one backend language at a high level will be sufficient to kickstart your journey as a Backend Engineer in most Product Companies.

I strongly recommend creating a structured learning schedule for each topic. By doing so, you’ll maintain focus and work toward achieving your goals efficiently.

Feel free to buzz with more questions.

Best wishes on your new career path!
