I wouldn't want to generalize this answer by asking you to follow 10 points to make this transition from sales to PM.

Its important for me to understand what products you're working for as a sales professional. Its imperative to understand your professional background and then recommend the transition plan.


I'd however give an example, because as a PM , you get to also work with sales & marketing team. Start by understanding your product and business of the organization very well. You should be able to demonstrate high understanding of business , their ways of working (especially for the product you're working for) and how it ultimately impacts the overall business.

Say, for a company who is in the business of manufacturing and selling t-shirts, what is your understanding of their product, how is it being designed, inventory, forecasts and what is driving those decisions. Is the business looking to make a 5% revenue on that t-shirt, why and how do they operationalize it..

This is just a starting point, and after this, you start delving into technical tools they use.

Be on the lookout where product teams in your organization can use your help, this is a great starting point and helps you break easily into PM.

Last but not the least, curate your resume strategically and keep applying to companies.
