Given the rapid speed of development in AI Research, it is hard to say which sub field will be future proof. If you see currently, generative AI and LLMs are on the forefront of research and development. Tomorrow it could be something else.

But if you focus on emerging technologies and adapt your skills according to the changing AI/ML landscape then you can keep your job future-proof.

According to me, if you are competent in an interdisciplinary field then it will increase your chances of being future-proof. Quantum Computing is an emerging technology and it will have a significant impact on AI and ML. Being proficient in both Quantum Computing and AI could provide you an advantage.
