Hi Aadith,
As Principal Data Analyst at Fortune 1 company with more than 10 years of experience, I can say, for a Data Analyst role, you should be interested in solving business problems from diverse backgrounds.
A data analyst solves business problems from a data perspective and thus has abilities of a Data Engineer as well as some bit of Data Science as well.
If you look it from tool and skills perspective, you can focus on below major points:
- Problem Understanding Evaluation
- Probable scenarios and deliverables
- Data Gathering and Cleaning
- Data Analysis - SQL, Python etc.
- Visualization - Using Tableau, Power BI etc.
- Stakeholder Communication
The major skill that is missing in Data Analysts is the ability to think differently and work on projects that are in unknown territory.
For detailed mentoring, I recommend booking a trial session with me and we can discuss more on your aspirations and way forward.

Hi Aadith,
Thanks for posting the question, I'll divide this question into multiple parts to address it porperly:
What advice do you have for someone looking to advance their career in data analysis?
- Continuous learning is must in Data Science, given the number of tools we have, there is always a room to learn more.
- Your projects matter a lot, build your resume, update your linkedin profile by highlighting key projects. Try to slide away from genric projects which are likely included in degree curiculum and address real world problems.
- Participate in online platforms like GitHub, Kaggle, or Stack Overflow to collaborate, share your work, and learn from others.
- Develop strong communication and storytelling skills. The ability to explain complex findings in a clear and understandable way is crucial.
Which tools or programming languages do you find most valuable in your day-to-day work?
The tool selection completely depend on the project you are currently involved in. To give you a picture, I'm currently making use of QuickSight as the reporting tool however, my experties are in PowerBi and Tableau.
However, when it comes to programming languge Python is by far go to option for me.
Are there any professional organizations or meetups you would recommend joining?
I follow Microsoft PowerBi updates session which they conduct with each release of PowerBi, this helps me to get in touch with latest updates and to make use of it in various project. Other than that, you can read articles related to various technology trends related to Data Analytics on Gartner or Forrester.
Specifically, I don't recommend joining meetups, instead having a good working project anyday is a better way to go.
I hope I was able to answer all your questions.
Best Regards,
Puneet Dhir
