Mentee Question
I'm good at frontend (Flutter, 3 yrs exp) and also been doing backend, my primary question is should I continue with frontend or full-stack.

Hi Manu,
The value placed on frontend and backend engineers has shifted over time, and today both are equally important. Deciding whether to become a full-stack engineer depends on your willingness to learn new technologies for both frontend and backend development. It's better to specialize in one area first and then expand your skills to the other, rather than being a mediocre full-stack developer. Being a full-stack engineer can be beneficial as you gain experience and move into leadership positions, providing you with a broader understanding of system architecture and design.

It should depend upon your area of interest. There used to be a time when backend engineers were valued more than frontend engineers, but these days it is not the same, both frontend and backend engineer are valued the same.
In terms of becoming a full stack engineer, it should depend on your choice, will you be flexible to learn different new emerging technologies and framework for both frontend and backend, then go for it. If not, don’t be a full stack engineer just for namesake and not good at both. So, I suggest people to be good in one first and then move to second.
Being a full stack engineer helps you have a bird eye view of architecture and overall design in the system. It helps you as you become senior and move towards the lead/manager role.
