Mentors Answer

Hi Hasan,

This is a very important art and it starts from the time you enter the interview room and say Hello! The first question that the interviewer asks is really to set the tone and know you better - usually it is " Tell me about yourself" - and trust me this is your biggest opportunity to navigate the full interview in the direction you want...there are techniques to do so and have a leverage.

Hi Hasan,

You have touched upon a very important aspect. The art of turning interviews into opportunities to connect with the interviewer is of utmost importance.

Conversational interviews are the art of turning dialogues into conversations. The best interviews are the ones where you can establish a rapport with the person and build that trust and create that comfort of creating a genuine connection.

Building a rapport starts with matching the Body language of the other person and identifying a common relatable topic to speak about. From there the conversation builds up. Being genuine and authentic is very important. One should not be faking and should not sound like they are trying to impress the other person. Goes without saying that you need to be respectful and empathetic towards the other person. These are a few tips to start with.

To foster a genuine conversation, go beyond Q&A by actively listening and responding thoughtfully.

  1. Share personal insights and experiences related to the topic to create a rapport.
  2. Use open-ended questions to encourage deeper discussions. To leverage an interview, steer the conversation towards your strengths and achievements, showcasing relevance to the role.
  3. Emphasize how your skills align with the company's needs.
  4. Express enthusiasm and ask about the company culture, demonstrating your interest.

Ultimately, aim to establish a meaningful exchange that highlights your suitability while showing a keen interest in the opportunity.
