Mentee Question

Asked by Razen Saeed

Hello, My name is Razen and I am currently a software engineer at a small company that mainly works with legacy code. My dream is to move to a company that works with leading technologies on a large scale. Unfortunately, because the requirements of the applications to these companies are dependent on experience with highly scalable design and production of software, I dont feel like I would be qualified. I was wondering if you could help with setting up a plan on how I can gain experience to become as good as someone with experience in a larger company that doesnt only work with legacy code. thank you

Hey Razen, hope you are doing good.

I understand that we occasionally face some friction with the resume review or interview process when not coming from a very established firm. But we should be able to overcome that with a solid resume that highlights any personal projects done in the required technologies, or with mentioning all related skills as necessary.

In terms of exposure and experience, we can bridge the gap with understanding the system design and design patterns, real-world tech problems, how big companies solved issues, etc. This can be achieved with a concrete plan and sticking to it. We can discuss further on this if you would like to know more, as we can come up with a personalized plan that works for us. Feel free to book my 1:1. See you there, all the best :)
