Mentee Question
Analytics for PMs ?
Mentors Answer
Answered By Mentor Pallavi Sinha
Hi Arun,
When you say Analytics for PMs , do you mean Is Analytics important for PMs ?
I'd say Yes ! You should know how to make use of data points and analytical tools help you with that.
Many PMs , especially projects in early stage, take some time to figure out what are the vital data points for them and then subsequently arrive at the dashboard using any analytical tool that suits them best. In my case, I've done both, pulled all data from Jira to my Tableau instance to make sense of a lot of indicators as well as connect to data sources individually and work on that dashboard to get some vital metrics.
In any case, you'd need analytics for PMs because data and gut(sometimes / many at times :) ) should drive your findings and results.

Hello Arun
You're absolutely right; analytics is crucial for product managers. It allows you to harness data and analytical tools, including Power BI, to make informed decisions. For many PMs, especially in the early stages of a project, discovering key data points and creating dashboards is a vital part of the process. Personally, I've used a combination of methods, including pulling data from Jira into Power BI and connecting to various data sources to create essential metrics. In any case, analytics empowers PMs by ensuring that both data and intuition drive their findings and results. It's a powerful tool for making strategic and data-driven decisions in product management.
