Ever felt like you were caught in a rut, career-wise? Himalaya sure did.

He wanted new challenges, growth, something more than the monotony of his current job.

So, what did he do? He scoured job listings, dived deep into LinkedIn, and binged on YouTube tutorials.

Yet, the breakthrough he craved remained elusive.

But, you know what they say – when the student is ready, the mentor appears.

This isn't your typical success story. It's a real, down-to-earth account of how long-term mentorship, mixed with determination, turned things around for Himalaya.

So, now let's dive into Himalay's incredible journey!

Can you tell us about your background and previous work experience?

I spent four years in the software engineering game as a senior engineer.

It was okay, but honestly, I was getting a bit bored.

I needed something more challenging. So, I decided it was time for a change, a chance to enhance my system design skills and tackle new things.

That's when this whole journey started, I was just a regular person looking for a bit of excitement and growth.

What challenges were you facing before seeking Preplaced mentorship?

Before I found my mentor, I was facing some serious challenges.

Imagine stumbling around in the dark, not knowing where to step next. That's how lost I felt in this whole job transition process.

I tried doing it on my own, you know, Googling my way through interview prep and signing up for online courses left, right and centre.

But guess what? It didn't work.

Every rejection felt like a blow, especially that first-round interview rejection - it hit hard.

I knew I had potential, but something was missing, especially when it came to system design.

“I needed someone to guide me and fill in the gaps between what I knew and what I needed to know.”

So, yeah, lack of a clear roadmap and struggling with system design were my major roadblocks.

How did you come across Shubham and decide to seek long-term mentorship?

You won't believe how I found my mentor Shubham Khanna—it was pure luck!

I was scrolling through LinkedIn one day and stumbled upon a post about someone whose career had transformed because of Shubham's help.

I got curious. I thought, "If it worked for them, could it work for me too?"

So, I took a chance and reached out to Shubham for a trial 1:1 mentorship session.

I had no idea what to expect, but I figured, why not give it a shot?

And you know what? It turned out to be the best thing I ever did for my career.

“Sometimes, the most unexpected paths lead to the most extraordinary destinations.”

What specific areas of mentor-guided support did Shubham provide to enhance your skills?

Shubham was more than just a mentor; he was like that friend who's got your back no matter what.

He nudged me to tackle problems on platforms like Leetcode, something I knew about but never really dived into until he pushed me.

I thought I had a decent understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) concepts, but when it came to applying them practically, I was lost.

Shubham patiently guided me, breaking down the theory and showing me how to use it in real-life scenarios. It was a game-changer!

“What I appreciated most was his flexibility.”

Shubham didn't impose a rigid schedule. Whether it was the crack of dawn or way past midnight, he was there, always ready to assist whenever I reached out.

When I started this mentorship journey, I was seeking something structured, something that would truly make a difference.

We kicked off with a trial 1:1 mentorship session, and Shubham suggested I give it three months to see the impact.

Those initial three months were incredibly eye-opening, prompting me to request an additional month.

The difference his long-term mentorship brought became crystal clear to me, especially because I had tried to navigate it all on my own before.

During this time, I faced six interviews, and I managed to ace four of them.

Shubham's long-term mentorship didn't just give me a boost; it transformed my entire approach and, ultimately, my outcomes.

What advice would you give to others who are struggling in their career or job search?

If you find yourself stuck in your career or feeling lost in your job search, let me share some hard-earned wisdom: seek personalised mentorship.

I know it might sound like a cliché, but trust me, it's a game-changer.

When I was at my lowest, feeling demotivated and directionless, having a mentor was like finding a guiding light in the darkness.

My advice? Don't be afraid to ask for help!

Reach out to someone experienced, someone who's been through what you're going through.

A good mentor can offer insights and encouragement that you might not find elsewhere.

Don't let stagnancy hold you back. It's easy to get comfortable or feel discouraged by setbacks, but remember, every successful person faces challenges too.

The key is to keep learning and growing, and personalised mentorship is the catalyst that can propel you forward.

So, take that leap, find a mentor who resonates with you, and let them help you transform your career.

Trust me, it's worth it.

To sum it up

The takeaway from Himalay's story is clear: Personalised mentorship has the potential to reshape careers and lives.

His narrative underscores the invaluable support that a mentor can provide, offering personalised guidance and unwavering encouragement.

It's a reminder that setbacks are not roadblocks but rather opportunities for growth and resilience.
